When he was 24, not particularly athletic, and lacking experience, Peter decided he wanted to participate in a triathlon. The following year he was one of the top competitors in the province, and he qualified to race on both the provincial and national triathlon teams. That is the power of the relentless focus that Peter brings to everything he does.

Peter likes to attack complex problems with a single-minded determination. Time and again, through his method of hard work, dedication and thoughtful inquiry, Peter has helped his clients overcome obstacles and improve their business. His background in art history adds a unique, empathetic perspective to his analysis, and he strives to understand each client’s individual culture before offering insightful advice and an incisive plan. Peter has two decades of experience in the group insurance industry, with a focus in disability management. He holds his Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation, is a Council Member of the Western Region of the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute (CPBI), and is a member of the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists (ISCEBS).  He has also obtained Certification on Leading a Mentally Healthy Workplace from Queens University and Shepell.

Besides being a competitive cyclist, Peter loves spending time with his family, reading, adventure racing, hiking, skiing, and travelling.

    Our group was part of an association plan with roughly 7,000 other members.  We had several issues related to the coverage and the lack of transparency with respect to claims experience and statistical data. We wanted to know how our policy was performing, and to be able to make changes specific to our company needs at our convenience. We had outgrown our previous benefits model, and were looking for an option to customize towards our 150+ employee group of construction companies.

    When we first started working with Peter Moffat and TRG, we were expanding our company. At that time, our complicated benefits program was being managed by an out-of-province advisor which was challenging for our organization due to our growth and the lack of a personal presence in Vancouver managing the expansion.  We were referred to Peter through a client of his and after meeting with him and discussing our plan and options, we appointed him as our Benefits Consultant.

    Our benefits program was very complicated with many classes and divisions of employees.  Peter began by helping us create a new division for an oncoming group of employees as well as merge some divisions/classes that were not being used.  He worked with our carrier and streamlined our plan, it’s divisions and classes and has continued to help us in managing the programs that we have. 

     More recently, Peter helped us design and implement a group retirement program for our employees.  The Group RRSP was a project that took several months to create and roll out as we communicated to our local and remote staff as well as our executive team.  Peter has been a great asset in this and has effectively guided us each step of the way.  We also implemented an Employee Assistance Program which was rolled out to our staff this past summer.  Peter was instrumental in researching the various EAPs available and the EAP we selected has been well received and is utilized.

  • We feel like an important client to TRG.

    Prior to working with Peter, we felt like we had no assistance or guidance on our benefits program, and we felt that we were paying into a big pool and our plan design options were very limited. No one took the time to tune in to our needs, and we didn’t even know who to contact for service issues or advice. Peter helped us conduct a strategic review of our program and provided us with many different options to consider, and challenged us on some areas of our program. We changed the plan design to reflect our company values - showing our employees that we care for their well being. He then aligned us with a carrier that matched the needs of our organization in terms of price, service, and technology.

    Peter also helped us design and implement a group RRSP for our employees. He walked us through the CAP Guidelines, and helped us build a unique contribution structure and plan design that specifically fits the needs of our organization. During implementation, he presented to our employees, educating them on how the group RRSP works, and provided advice and responded to many questions that were raised.

    Additionally, I attend TRG’s Health Symposium each year, and I have found them to be very beneficial and I take away a lot of ideas and information. This also helped us get a feel for what TRG is capable of and what they’re all about.

    TRG provides us with quarterly claims experience which we also value. One quarter specifically surprised us to see a very significant increase in one category of claims. Peter immediately addressed our concerns by examining the claims, and he provided us with a strategy and a specific communication piece that we distributed out to our employees to address the specific claims issue.

  • Don’t bother going anywhere else – just get it going with TRG.

    I was looking for a way to help secure new employees, and make my current employees feel more valued and secure in their role.
