A competitive athlete all his life, Brent is a natural team player who is driven by his sense of sportsmanship to find a win-win result in every situation.

This passion for teamwork and goal-driven performance inspired Brent to join TRG in 2008 after 17 years with Great West Life. Why did he leave the large insurance carrier for a smaller firm? Simple—he knew he could establish more meaningful relationships with his clients, and that makes all the difference.

Today, Brent focuses on helping his clients increase revenue, decrease costs, and enhance their reputation through an effective use of group benefits. In short, he's a powerful player to have on your team.

Brent has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Manitoba, a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation, and is currently on the Board of the BC Chapter of the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists (ISCEBS). Most recently, he was certified in the Workplace Mental Health Leadership program offered through Queen’s University.

When not in the office, you’ll find Brent on the fairway, putting his competitive spirit to use in a number of tournaments.

    At Mennonite Educational Institute (MEI), we had some management changes and needed to better understand our employee benefit plan, our past decision making process, as well as planning for the future. TRG was most helpful in helping us get a handle on this.

     We also wanted to increase our employee engagement but knew the task was large. TRG helped us determine and execute an effective communication strategy. Multiple pension online training sessions were conducted by TRG and our insurance carrier to help acquaint our members with the available retirement planning tools. The pension plan training resulted in a dramatic increase in our members’ online access. Given this success, we are now looking to plan education sessions and increase awareness around our health benefits, in addition to retirement planning sessions for the older employees.

At Trinity Western University, we have worked with TRG for many years and one of the most memorable situations was when we had a long term employee who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. We had a practice of allowing employees who are not working in the summer months to not participate in the health plan and so, this employee was not on the plan when he received his diagnosis.

    Brent went to work and personally visited our insurance carrier’s head office to advocate on our behalf to make an exception on our policy and have this employee retroactively added back on the plan so that he would receive life insurance and health coverage. This employee ended up passing away within four months and his family was immensely grateful. Since then, TRG has helped us with our administrative practices which now require continuous coverage of employees who are taking a summer break.
